Yinchuan, capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, was one of China's dynamic outposts of civilization. The city has seen series of wars between the various ethnic groups vying for dominance over this otherwise relaxed culture center. It served as capital of the Western Xia Dynasty from 11th century to 13 century. The place is thus endowed with numerous cultural relics and historical sights. The pyramid-shaped Western Xia mausoleums scattering around a vast rocky plain are believed a repostories of the extinguishing Western Xia culture. They are likely to open door for future generations to learn the history of this once flourishing kindom.
